Honoring the Veterans and Local Heros in this Small Town in Southern Oklahoma

Every year, people are taken aback at the remarkable way this small town in Southern Oklahoma honors their veterans and local heros. Located just outside of Poteau, Oklahoma, this town has been making sure that no veteran and local hero or family member goes unrecognized.

It all starts in the first of October when anyone can purchase a flag. The cost goes to purchase the flags and support the classrooms at the Panama Lower Elementary. With the help of Panama City Hall they start taking applications and ordering flags, the work begins to make this amazing display for folks to see as they drive thru this town.

The display of flags takes place throughout the town, honoring those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It has become a tradition for many of the locals to come out and pay their respects on Veteran’s Day. It is a beautiful sight to see, as hundreds of flags wave proudly in the wind.

Special thanks go to Panama Lower Elementary School, The students, teachers and Ryne & Amanda Perdue for their hard work displaying the plaques and flags. The flags are a constant reminder of the bravery of those who have served our country and the bravery of those who serve the local community.

The Bottom Line

This small town in southern Oklahoma is an example of how a community can come together to show their appreciation for those who serve. From honoring veterans to recognizing local heros, this town goes above and beyond to show their gratitude for all those who have served and continue to serve.
