The Homesteading Journey of
60 Acre Wood Farm

Explore the journey of a family who left the city to start a self-sustained farm in Arkansas, raising animals, growing food, and homeschooling their kids.

The Jorney

In the very beginning of 2020, our family made a life-changing decision. We left the hustle and bustle of the city in Casper, Wyoming, and moved to a serene 70-acre property in the woods of Northeastern Arkansas. With no prior experience, we embarked on a journey to create a self-sustained family farm that would provide us with food and a sense of fulfillment.

A Family Affair

On our farm, we have three generations living harmoniously. My mother is just a stone’s throw away, always ready to lend a helping hand. We have a variety of animals on our farm, including goats for milk and cheese, highlander cows, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. Our days are filled with caring for these animals, tending to our gardens, and preserving food for the winter months.

Growing Our Own Food

One of the most rewarding aspects of farm life is being able to grow and preserve our own food. We aim to be self-sufficient and currently produce about 70% of the food we consume as a family of 12. From fresh vegetables to home-canned preserves, every meal is a testament to our hard work and dedication to sustainable living.

Homeschooling Adventures

In addition to caring for our animals and tending to our gardens, we also homeschool our five incredible children. With ages ranging from 5 to 15, each day brings new challenges and joys. We believe that the farm provides the perfect backdrop for a hands-on education, where our children can learn about nature, responsibility, and the value of hard work.

Finding Peace in the Chaos

While the world around us may be chaotic and uncertain, our farm has become a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. There is a certain magic in baking a loaf of sourdough bread using homegrown tomatoes and basil. The flavors are unparalleled, and the satisfaction of knowing that we grew and harvested the ingredients ourselves is immeasurable.

Embracing the Unknown

Embarking on this journey has been both incredibly challenging and deeply rewarding. There have been moments of doubt and uncertainty, but they are far outweighed by the moments of joy and fulfillment. We have found a sense of purpose and contentment in working the land and living off the fruits of our labor.

The life on the 60 Acre Wood Farm in Northeastern Arkansas is not without its challenges, but the rewards far surpass the hardships. It is a testament to the resilience and determination of those who choose to live close to the land and embrace a simpler way of life. If you ever find yourself longing for a break from the chaos of the world, perhaps a visit to a farm like ours could provide the peace and solace you seek.
